How to crochet the Single Crochet
- 1Insert your hook into the next stitch (under both loops of the V-shaped top of the stitch below).
- 2Yarn over (wrap working yarn over hook from back to front).
- 3Pull the yarn through the stitch. You now have two loops on your hook.
- 4Yarn over again.
- 5Pull through both loops on the hook.
- 6One single crochet is complete. One loop remains on the hook.
Tips
- For a turning chain, chain 1 at the end of a row. Do not count this chain as a stitch.
- Always insert the hook under both loops of the stitch below unless the pattern specifies front loop only (FLO) or back loop only (BLO).
- Single crochet produces a denser, less stretchy fabric than double crochet. It is ideal for amigurumi, bags, and dishcloths.
