How to crochet the Single Crochet

  1. 1Insert your hook into the next stitch (under both loops of the V-shaped top of the stitch below).
  2. 2Yarn over (wrap working yarn over hook from back to front).
  3. 3Pull the yarn through the stitch. You now have two loops on your hook.
  4. 4Yarn over again.
  5. 5Pull through both loops on the hook.
  6. 6One single crochet is complete. One loop remains on the hook.

Tips

  • For a turning chain, chain 1 at the end of a row. Do not count this chain as a stitch.
  • Always insert the hook under both loops of the stitch below unless the pattern specifies front loop only (FLO) or back loop only (BLO).
  • Single crochet produces a denser, less stretchy fabric than double crochet. It is ideal for amigurumi, bags, and dishcloths.
