Privacy Policy
Last updated June 6, 2026
This policy explains what information CrochetZen collects, why we collect it, and the choices you have. It covers both the website at crochetzen.com and the CrochetZen iOS app. We tried to write it in plain language. If anything is unclear, email us and we will explain.
Who we are
CrochetZen makes a mindful crochet and knitting companion for iPhone. We are the data controller for the information described here. You can reach us at privacy@crochetzen.com.
Information we collect
We keep collection to what the product actually needs.
When you visit the website
- Basic usage analytics: pages viewed, approximate region, device type, and referring link. This is aggregated and helps us understand which guides are useful.
- Anything you choose to send us, such as the contents of an email.
When you use the app
- Account details. If you create an account, we store the identifier you sign in with. We do not see your Apple ID password.
- Photos you scan. When you point the camera at your work to check for mistakes, the app processes that image to find dropped stitches, miscounts, and tension issues. See the dedicated section below.
- Project data. Patterns you save, row counts, and stash items you add. This stays tied to your account so your projects follow you between sessions.
- Subscription status. Whether you are on a free trial or a paid plan. Payment itself is handled by Apple, described under third parties.
- Diagnostic data. Crash logs and performance metrics, used to fix problems.
How we handle the photos you scan
The AI camera is the heart of the app, so this deserves its own section. When you scan a piece of fabric, the image is used to generate feedback about your stitches and nothing else. We do not sell your photos. We do not use your photos to train models without asking you first in a clear, separate opt in. Where the analysis runs on our servers, the image is processed and then deleted once the result is returned, unless you explicitly save it to your project. You can delete saved photos at any time from inside the app.
How we use information
- To provide the features you asked for, like scanning and counting.
- To keep your projects in sync and your stash up to date.
- To process your subscription and honor your free trial.
- To fix bugs, improve accuracy, and make the app faster.
- To respond when you contact us.
We do not run advertising networks inside the app, and we do not build advertising profiles about you.
Third parties we rely on
- Apple. Handles all payments, subscriptions, and free trials through the App Store. We never receive your full card details.
- Analytics and infrastructure providers. We use privacy-respecting product analytics (PostHog) to understand which guides are useful and how the site performs, and standard cloud hosting for the website and app. We do not record your screen, and we honor the Do Not Track signal. These providers process data on our behalf under agreements that limit how they may use it.
- AI processing. Stitch analysis may run on managed infrastructure. Images sent for analysis are used only to return your result, as described above.
Cookies
The website uses a small number of cookies and similar technologies for basic analytics and to remember your preferences, such as a light or dark theme. You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings. The core content of the site works without them.
How long we keep data
We keep account and project data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we must keep limited records for legal or accounting reasons. Scanned images that you did not save are not retained after analysis.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to certain processing. People in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom have these rights under the GDPR. Residents of California have similar rights under the CCPA, including the right not to be discriminated against for exercising them. To make a request, email privacy@crochetzen.com and we will respond within the time the law requires.
Children
CrochetZen is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
International transfers
We may process data in countries other than your own. When we do, we use safeguards appropriate to the transfer so your data keeps a similar level of protection.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot promise absolute security, but we work to reduce risk.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the product grows. When we make a material change, we will update the date above and, where appropriate, tell you inside the app. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated policy.
