The bobble stitch is a raised textured stitch made by working 5 incomplete double crochets into the same stitch and pulling them together at the top, creating a rounded bump on the fabric surface.

How to crochet the Bobble Stitch

  1. 1Yarn over, insert hook into the stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through 2 loops. Two loops remain on hook (one incomplete dc).
  2. 2Yarn over, insert hook into the same stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through 2 loops. Three loops remain on hook.
  3. 3Repeat step 2 three more times, each time into the same stitch. Six loops are now on the hook.
  4. 4Yarn over once and pull through all 6 loops on the hook.
  5. 5Chain 1 to lock the bobble and push it to the right side of the work.
  6. 6One bobble stitch is complete. Continue with the next stitch as directed.

Tips

  • Bobbles show on the opposite side from where you are working. Work them on wrong-side rows if you want the texture on the right side.
  • The number of incomplete dc can vary from 3 to 7; more strands create a larger, rounder bobble.
  • Work the chain-1 after the bobble loosely, or the top of the bobble will pucker.
