Yarn fiber guide

Cashmere Yarn

Cashmere yarn is a luxury fiber from the cashmere goat, prized for being extraordinarily soft and warm, and best saved for special accessories worn close to the skin.

Cashmere is combed from the soft undercoat of the cashmere goat, and it takes several goats to gather enough for a single garment, which is why it is one of the most expensive yarns you can buy. The reward is a fiber that is remarkably soft, light, and warm, with a gentle halo. It feels wonderful against the neck and wrists, so it shines in scarves, cowls, and fingerless mitts.

Cashmere is delicate. It pills more readily than sturdier fibers and the fabric can relax with wear, so it suits accessories more than hard-working everyday garments. It is often blended with wool or silk to add durability and lower the cost. Hand wash gently in cool water with a wool-safe soap and dry flat.
